Carla Anderson

Centerfield, Utah

A quiet peace and sadness surrounds us as we say good-bye to our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, friend, and neighbor, Carla Kiersten Sofia Poulsen Anderson, as she completed her earthly mission on November 17, 2014, at the age of 105 and has gone on to receive her eternal and well earned reward. Born to Christian Thorstein and Carlfine Bodil Jahn Poulsen, June 25, 1909, in Copenhagen, Demark.

Carla immigrated to America with her mother November 19, 1914, arriving at Ellis Island, December 3, 1914. Her parents were converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while in Denmark. Her father came first, saving money for the happy day when the family could be reunited. When Carla was eleven years old tragedy struck her family, her mother passed away two days after giving birth to her little brother, Carl. Although she was very lonely at times in her life, she always felt her mother has watched over her.

At age eighteen, she married Miles Nephi Anderson, March 19, 1923. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple, June 28, 1943. They were blessed with four children. Together they learned the importance of hard work and determination, while overcoming the economic and physical challenges of the great depression. They enjoyed 68 happy, loving years together. Miles passed away January 28, 1995.

Carla’s gentle giving nature endeared her to children and adults alike. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Family and friends have relished Carla’s home cooked meals and her expertise at baking and canning. She loved traveling, dancing, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with loved ones. While facing many challenges in her life, she never lost her positive spirit and optimistic attitude. Carla’s unselfish love and kindness will live forever in our hearts. She felt her greatest calling in life was that of wife and mother. Carla lived a happy and contented life, staying in her own home until she was 100 years old. She often stated, "It’s fun to be 100, you get so much attention!" She has been able to reap the benefits of the happy attitude she has had throughout her life. Let us be grateful to people that make us happy.

Survived by her children: Hal Anderson Salt Lake City, Gerda (Paul) Caldwell Gunnison, eleven grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 43 great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents; husband; children: Clyde (Brocy) Anderson, Maurine (Brice) Christensen; daughter-in-law, LaRae Anderson; brother, Carl (Louise) Poulsen; 4 grandchildren; loving cousins, Norma Jenkins and Alice Belliston, both of Nephi.

Our families have been blessed to love her and share her amazing life. Our gratitude to Mission at Community Rehabilitation Assisted Living, Carma and staff for the exceptional care given to her.
