Calvin “E” Payne

Midvale, UT

Calvin "E" Payne, 87, of Midvale, Utah, passed away April 25, 2014.  He was born June 1, 1926 in Monroe, Utah to John Elgie Payne and Ruby Vera Hall Payne. He married Pearl Oliver in the Salt Lake Temple on March 6, 1952. His mother passed when he was 5 years old. His father married Ruth Harmon who passed when he was 14. His father then married Fern Jorgensen.  Calvin always said how lucky he was to have 3 mothers. After graduating high school he quickly enrolled in the Navy at 18. He served on the U.S.S. Navarro from 1944 to 1946. He then served a LDS mission to the Northwest states in 1948 to 1950 and later in life a second mission with his wife to Australia. He was a meticulous book keeper, accountant, and trust officer for Tracy Collins Bank.  As a numbers man he loved to watch the stock market and could always tell you how the Market was doing.

He and Pearl struggled to have children. 5 years after they married they were able to adopt 4 children in 7 years. They filled their lives with service to their church, their friends and family.  He is survived by his children: Russell O. (Karen) Payne, Midvale; Linda (Scott) Brady, Riverton; Diane E Payne, Midvale; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; Brothers; Ronald (Mary) Payne, North Logan; Allan (Jeanette) Payne, Sandy; Roger (Camille) Payne, Taylorsville; Sisters: Carma (Marvin) Hansen, Richfield; and Evelyn Payne, Sandy.

He was preceded in death by his wife Pearl O Payne and son Richard Calvin

Payne and his parents.
