Brent Thomas Cowley

October 29, 1946 — November 14, 2017


Our loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and great friend, Brent Thomas Cowley, 71, passed away November 14, 2017 in Richfield.  He was born October 29, 1946 in Richfield to Anthony Oscar and Irene Shaw Cowley.  He married Julie Ann Meacham on April 2, 1971 in the Manti Utah Temple.
Brent was raised in Venice and graduated from Richfield High School.  He was drafted into the Army on Christmas Eve (heck of a Christmas present).  He served in Viet Nam and was a member of "The Big Red One", their motto is: "No Mission too Difficult, No Sacrifice too Great, Duty First".  His military service has continued since his separation from the Army by being actively involved with the V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050 and coordinating over 1,500 funerals of veterans in addition to participating in the many patriotic programs held in our valley.
Brent was proud to be a “Farmer” and worked many years with his brothers at Cowley Farm and Feed Lot. He drove truck, hauling livestock all over the Inter-mountain West, was a statistician at Producers Livestock Auction, was Water Master for the Richfield Canal and Piute Canal Companies for several years.  He served as president of the Richfield Canal Company and also president of the Southern Utah Jr. Livestock Show for many years.
He was an active member of the LDS Church, he served in the Southern California Mission, and fulfilled many other callings, including an executive secretary in two bishoprics and with his wife, Julie, were ordinance workers in the Manti Temple.
Brent is survived by his wife, Julie of Richfield; children: Wayne (Cherish) Cowley, Salina; Cody (Michelle) Cowley, Richfield; Stephanie (Nate) Richards, Venice; Jared Cowley, Richfield; Donovon Cowley, Richfield; 11 grandchildren; siblings: Chad Cowley, Tucson, AZ; Ervin (Jerry) Cowley, Saratoga Springs; in-laws: Alan (Margo) Meacham, West Valley City; Kurt (Kelly) Meacham, Monroe; Randy (Gina) Meacham, Joseph; Karen (Robert) Banks, Delta; Tamie (Mike) Jensen, Glenwood.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Deegan Brent Cowley; brothers: Angus Merrill (Marva) Cowley, Ivan (Pearl) Cowley; sister-in-law: Marilyn Cowley; father and mother-in-law: Layne and Analoy Meacham.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Venice LDS Ward Chapel.  Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 or at the ward chapel in Venice on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30.  Burial will be in the Venice Cemetery with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050 and the Utah Honor Guard.
The family extends their thanks and appreciation to Richfield Communications Center, Sevier County EMT’s, Richfield City Police Department, Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, staff and management at Stonehenge of Richfield, Brent’s physicians and their medical staffs and all others who have assisted with Brent’s care these past few years.
