Braxten Barker
Cedar City, Utah
Braxten Brian Barker, 29, passed away from a sudden illness unexpectedly on September 23, 2024 in St. George, UT. Braxten was an amazing uncle to his nieces and nephews, a devoted son to his sweet mother, an incredible brother to his siblings, and a cherished grandson to his grandparents.
Braxten was born December 3, 1994 in Gunnison, UT to Lauren Johnson Barker and Harold Brian Barker. He grew up in Manti, UT and graduated from Manti High School with the class of 2013, where he played on the high school football team and wrestled. The friends he made in high school were soul buddies and they have stayed true friends throughout his life.
Braxten was often found playing Xbox online with friends while simultaneously watching football on his phone. He also loved to travel and had big plans of traveling the world. He shared very fond memories of traveling with his true friends, Jordan and Dane, this last year. We are grateful that Jordan and Dane took their time this year to travel with Braxten as he cherished the time spent doing so.
Braxten worked at Intermountain Hospital for the last few years, until recently having the opportunity to begin contract work in Winchester, Virginia. After a quick 12 weeks, he decided to take another travel contract at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebenon, New Hampshire. Braxten was planning a return to St. George Regional Hospital, as well as seeking a degree in radiology. All who worked with Braxten loved him. They share fond memories of him and his quirks. Specifically, memories of all his random facts and subsequent trivia.
Of all the jobs Braxten had in his short years on this earth, being an uncle was his favorite and most important. He didn’t have the opportunity to have his own children, but he sure did the uncle job well and was adored by all.
Braxten had a heart of gold and was definitely a kid at heart. He could always be counted on to lighten the mood and bring a smile to our faces, even in the most serious of situations. He never wanted to grow up and be a real adult. One could always find him with all the kids at family get-togethers and other social events. He was always the fun uncle and cousin who loved to tease and torture with pranks or jokes. He leaves many loved ones behind with unforgettable memories, his kindness and his “gentle giant” personality that cannot be replaced. Braxten taught us and embodied that life is better when you laugh and love deeply.
Braxten is survived by his parents; his siblings, Brenan (Rebecca) Barker of Springville, UT, Demri (Robby) Layton of Ephraim, UT and Darci (Chris) Cox of Cedar City, UT; his grandparents, Glen and Carolyn Johnson of Manti, UT; his nephews and nieces, Tyson, Jordan, Braedon, Ryker, Adlee, Lincoln, Porter, Payzli, and Praetor; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold Adair and Beth LaRene Barker; his uncles, Glenn Blair Johnson and Gary L. Jensen; and his cousin, Brady Craig Johnson.
