Brant J Lee, 82, passed away June 18, 2012 in Monroe. He was born September 2, 1929 in Monroe, the 4th of five children born to Ardell and Ruth Anderson Lee.
He was very active as a boy and enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball. As a youth he played on the adult town baseball team and was a star on the high school baseball team. Soon after graduating from South Sevier High School, he found himself in Korea with many other young men from southern Utah as part of the 213th (now the 222nd) National Guard Unit (A Battery). This unit served their country valiantly and received presidential citations from both the American and Korean governments. The 222nd achieved some degree of notoriety and is often compared to Helaman’s Stripling Warriors because every member of the unit miraculously returned home safely, even though they were often involved in major conflicts and serious combat.
Brant played baseball at the Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City. He tried out for the very first baseball team there and made the first point ever scored by the team.
Brant married Emily LaNell Baker December 19, 1953 in the St. George LDS Temple.
Brant received his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts from Utah State University. He taught Industrial Arts for several years and then was asked to start the drafting and building trades programs at Sevier Valley Tech when it was first created. He remained there until his retirement in 1986. When he wasn’t teaching Brant was an active partner in B & B Construction and built, with his partner, Bob Nilsson and their sons, many homes in the Monroe/Richfield area. He took up woodcarving after his retirement and enjoyed designing and carving items deemed impossible by some. His carvings are currently on display in the Eccles Art Gallery in St. George.
Brant was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many capacities, including a three-year mission at Cove Fort with his wife LaNell.
He is survived by his wife, of Monroe; children: Philip (Roxie) Lee, Washington City; Thayne (Julie) Lee, Oak City; Wayne (Peggy) Lee, Evanston, WY; Ruthann (Tom) Brown, Richfield; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; siblings: Duane (RaeLynn) Lee, Koosharem; Sherry (Bud) Lowe, Brigham City.
