Bonnie Staples

Richfield, Utah

In the early morning hours of March 1, 2016, Bonnie Gae Chidester Staples, our beautiful, sweet wife, mother and grandmother slipped from the loving arms of her family to rejoin her mother and father who have been waiting for their cherished only child to return home to them. She passed away in St. George, Utah.

Bonnie was born in Salina, Utah on July 1, 1930, to John Denzel and Lula Chidester. Bonnie was born in Salina but raised in Richfield, Utah. She had a wonderful childhood filled with many friends and adventures that left her with memories that lasted a lifetime. She graduated from Richfield High School in 1948 and then spent her 25 year career at Richfield High School as the secretary and office manager. She cherished those years as she worked with students, faculty and staff. Recently, she was inducted into the Richfield High School Hall of Fame. She was so touched to have been honored by the school that had been such an important part of her life.

Bonnie married her sweetheart and the love of her life, Terrill Staples on November 12, 1948, and later sealed in the Manti Temple. They were married for 67 wonderful years. Bonnie and Terrill are the parents of three children: Vickie (Terry) Wilson, John Randall (Gloria) Staples, and Doris (Greg) Croshaw. She has 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Along with her husband, her children and her grandchildren were the light of her life. Even though Bonnie was an only child, Terrill’s brothers and sisters welcomed her into the family as a sister and they shared many wonderful memories throughout the years.

Bonnie was always very active in the community. She was president of the Jaycettes in 1956 and belonged to the Business and Professional Women’s Organization (BPW) and served as the treasurer in 1986. She also belonged to the DUP serving as captain, 1 st vice-captain and 2 nd vice captain over the years and belonged to the Study Club where she held various offices. Bonnie was a member of the Richfield LDS 2 nd Ward her entire life where she served in many different callings with a smile and a willing heart.

Bonnie loved the beauty of Sevier Valley and spent many hours helping Terrill on the ranch and supporting him at his Cowboy Poetry events. They spent all of their time together. She loved her roses and playing bridge with her girlfriends and was always ready for a shopping trip or lunch date with her daughters.

Bonnie lived a full, wonderful life. She brought love, joy, and grace to all who met her. She was sweet, caring and always smiling and happy. She will be missed by all who know and love her, but the memories of her will be with all of us forever.
