Hooray for Blodwen Parry Olson, who finally was granted her wish on November 3, 2015, to join her husband Phil, other family members, and friends on the other side of the veil. She passed away in American Fork, Utah at the age of 101. Blodwen (Welsh for lovely flower), was born in Manti, Utah, on May 26, 1914, daughter of Bernard and Vilate Harmon Parry. She cherished her rich pioneer heritage as the granddaughter of Edward Lloyd Parry, known for temple building, and the great-granddaughter of Appleton Milo Harmon, of the original pioneer company. She married Philip Niels Olson on June 29, 1938. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.
Service was important to Blodwen. She held numerous family gatherings for major holidays, always providing luscious meals, especially everyone's favorite homemade: dinner rolls, ice cream and candy. Serving on numerous civic boards and committees, she influenced culture and arts in Ephraim City, Sanpete County, and Snow College. Blodwen's teaching became legendary from elementary schools in Carbon County, to LDS classes in all organizations of her Ephraim ward and stake. She also greatly contributed to the success of the Ephraim Stake name extraction program for over 20 years. At the age of 98, Blodwen was still delivering her homemade pies by the dozens as an act of service to the elderly. She will be remembered for her compassion and service.
Family was above all else. Blodwen and Phil were blessed with four children: Jane and Doug Garbe, Orem; Bev and Gail Stout, Sandy; Parry and Judith Olson, Ephraim; and Cathy and Jeff Jensen, Cottonwood Heights; as well as 23 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great.
