"Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above Rubies." This was the kind of woman Betty Wiley was. Giving service and nurturing were the characteristics that everyone uses to describe her. She loved children and babies.

Betty Lou Coppinger Wiley, 94, passed away July 9, 2017 in Richfield. She was born on November 8, 1922 in Cortez, Colorado the 4th child of Thomas Archer Coppinger and Floy Beatrice Prunty. She graduated from Montezuma High School. After high school, she worked at Pagosa Springs Resort and Mountain Bell. She married Van Wiley in Farmington, New Mexico on August 5, 1941 and they were sealed in the St. George Temple on February 3, 1942. They were inseparable and united in life. Everything they did, they did it together. They loved ice skating, playing tennis, square dancing, camping to name a few. They have spent most of their married life living in Antimony, farming and raising their family.

After most of her children were raised, she went to work for Piute County for 20 years as secretary and Treasurer/Recorder. During that time she was Lady Vice President of Utah Association of Counties, on the Rural Health Board, and Secretary/Treasurer of Piute County Republican Party. She has always been community and civic minded, serving wherever and whenever she could. She wrote the Antimony column for the Reaper for many years.

Betty has served as stake and ward Young Women’s president, District Dance Director for the General Board, Relief Society president, a teacher in various organizations, chorister and pianist in various organizations. She and Van served together in the St. George Temple for 6 years and rarely missed a day. They loved those years. She served as the ward organist for many years until she was almost 90.

She was a wonderful mother to six children: Jeremy (Janine) Wiley, St. David, AZ; Marcia Tobiasson, Roma (Raymond) Henrie, Bill (Jane) Wiley, Tom Wiley, all of Antimony, Utah and Sally, deceased, (Tom) East, Mt. Pleasant. Betty has 20 grandchildren (2 are deceased), 62 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Chloris Coppinger. Summers at her house also included cousins, Cindy and Tim Wiley, Neal and Pat Warner; plus many neighbor kids.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Van; her parents; brothers: Doyle (Lallie) and Hurschel; sister, Boneva (Jack) Hall; grandchildren Alisha Wiley and Christopher Huntsman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Antimony Ward Chapel. The viewing will be held on Sunday, July 16 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield and Monday, prior to the services 9:30 to 10:30. a.m. Burial will be in the Antimony Cemetery.
