Bert Ramsay Madsen, 86, of Monroe, Utah passed away on March 30, 2021 in Richfield.  He was born March 6, 1935 to Horace M Madsen and Helen Ramsay in Richfield, Utah. He married Karma Rae Larsen on May 30, 1957.  He was sealed to her in the Manti Temple on May 30, 2019. She preceded him in death on February 3, 2018. They have three children and nine grandchildren.

Bert graduated from South Sevier High School in 1953, served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, and graduated from Utah State University in 1963. He worked as a school teacher from 1963 to 1993, most of that time teaching math at Richfield High School and South Sevier High School. He was the golf coach at South Sevier High School for years.

He loved golf.  He golfed many times per week for decades. In addition to receiving awards for many holes-in-one, he was the Club Throwing Champion at Cove View Golf Course in 1969. In his later years he played pool at the Monroe Senior Citizens Center.

He was a dedicated care giver for his wife, Karma, who was in poor health the last years of her life.  He was a wonderful grandpa, dearly loved by his grandchildren. “I don’t spoil them, I just give them what they want”.

He is survived by children: John Madsen, Monroe; Shawna (Mark) Christensen, Orem; Bart (Heather) Madsen, Monroe; grandchildren: Joshua Madsen, Richfield; Megan Madsen, Southwest Harbor, ME; Tyler Christensen, Saratoga Springs; Tiffany (Allan) Lires, Orem; Jessica (Tyson) Agla, Logan; Lance Christensen, Orem; Buddy (Jessica) Gardner, Monroe; Bowden Louder, St. George; Ian Louder, Monroe.

Bert was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and brothers: James and Carl Madsen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Monroe 1st Ward Chapel, where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery with military honors by the Sevier Valley American Legion Post #37 and Utah Honor Guard.
