Our loving mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend, Bernitta Ivie Mecham, 85, passed away July 22, 2014, peacefully at her home in Axtell. She was born June 9, 1929 in Aurora, Utah to Quay and Drucilla Harward Ivie, the second child of three and grew up in Aurora. She married Austin Lynn Mecham, April 28, 1947 in Pioche, Nevada and the marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.
Bernitta had such a cute sense of humor. She gave love and support to anyone in need. She loved to sing, sew, make rag rugs, gardening, canning (her pickles were the best) and crochet. The grandchildren never left her house without a peppermint and a soda cracker.
She was a member of the LDS Church and held many positions.
Bernitta is survived by her children: MaryAnn (Gail) Madsen, Joyce (Dorrol) Sampson, Brenda (Scott) Buchanan, Leisa (Adrian) Harward, Quay (Sharon) Mecham, Neil Mecham, Mavis (Russell) Heath, Camille (Jerry) Mason; and sister Jeanette (Kent) Coons. The greatest joy in Bernitta’s life were her children, her 26 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren (and one on the way) and 16 great-great-grandchildren (and one on the way).
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; granddaughter, Angela Buchanan; son-in-law, Newell Hatch; brother, Calvin (Grace) Ivie.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26 at 12 Noon in the Axtell Ward Chapel where friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery. Funeral Directors Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
