Berneta Henretta Slechta, 87, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at her home in Marysvale. She was born January 22, 1928 in Osmond, Nebraska to George and Margaret Thomas McCormick. She married the love of her life, Marvin W. Slechta, on July 2, 1949 in St. Vincent’s Church in Sioux City, Iowa.
Berneta grew up on a farm. Her first love was her horse, Queenie. She loved riding ATV’s and was courageous enough in her 60's to tackle the Rubicon Trail in California and over 500 miles on the Piute ATV Trail in Utah.
Berneta was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and aunt. She loved to read and embroider, but most of all, spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all and touched so many hearts. She saw the best in everyone and greeted them with a warm, loving smile. She was our sunshine.
Survived by her husband; children: Terry Slechta, Montclair, CA; Bonnie (Lawrence) Rasmus, Marysvale; Sherry Hinojosa, Marysvale; Pam (Allen) Howell, Garden Grove, CA; Debbie (Jerald) Jamieson, Lake Elsinore, CA; Richard (Effie) Slechta, Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren: Alicia, Erin, Cory, Mandie, Malayna, Amie, Matthew, Jamie, Trina, Terry, Ariel, Skyler, James; and 11 great-grandchildren; siblings: Cathryn Blouser, Columbus, NE; John (Phyllis) McCormick, Mesa, AZ.
Preceded in death by parents; 2 stillborn children; a great-grandson; siblings: Ola, Mort, Paul, Clarence and Lonnie.
Cremation services have been held. Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Central Valley, where friends may call from 10 to 10:45 a.m. A private family burial will take place later in the Marysvale Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
