Benton Petersen

Benton Lauritz Petersen, passed away February 19th 2022 at the age of 80 due to blood clots and a stroke. Benton was born a New Year’s baby on January 1st 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lauritz George Petersen and Arleane Curtis Petersen.
Benton loved to study politics and religion. He joined the Army National Guard, Battery D, 6th Tng Bn USATC FA, 4th U.S. Army at the age of seventeen and served a mission at the age of nineteen in southern Germany. He went on to earn an Associate of Arts degree at Weber State College, a Juris Doctorate at Monticello University and a Master’s degree in Counseling and Liberal Arts from the University of Oklahoma, as well as many, many other awards and recognitions. He worked many years as a counselor at the Salvation Army in Midland, Texas.
In 1974 he met and married Sharon Donnette Higgins and together they were sealed in the Provo Temple. They had four children, Grant, Tashya, Nick and Katrina. Benton had a soothing baritone voice and worked at KSOP and many other radio stations throughout the 1970s and 80s. In his last years of life, he tutored mentally handicapped adults in all areas of study and donated to many Native American schools. He did so much good in the world and will be greatly missed! Benton Petersen is survived by four children and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Manti Stake Center. Friends may call prior to services starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow the services at 2:30 p.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens, Sandy, Utah.
