Barton LaVell Barney

May 16, 1940 — July 4, 2017

Barton LaVell Barney, 77, passed away July 4, 2017 at his home south of Elsinore. He was born May 16,1940 in Brooklyn to Delbert and Lucille Synthelia Lewis Barney.

He married Evelyn Talbot, they later divorced. He married Debora Higgins, March 16, 1985 in Richfield. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti Utah Temple, March 14, 1987.

He was an active member of the LDS Church where he served faithfully in his ward Primary, Sunday School Presidency, Young Mens organization, Elder’s Quorum, and as an assistant ward clerk. He most enjoyed being an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple.

He has worked as a Richfield City Police Officer and back in the day....was a typewriter repairman with Sevier School and Office Supply. In the late 1970's, LaVell started driving truck, first for Hatchco, then other area trucking companies, finally retiring from L. Barney & Sons Trucking as owner/operator.

He was a member of the Richfield Elks Lodge, Richfield JC’s, but his life’s love was doing anything for and everything with his family. He taught them how to work hard and be productive - he disciplined with love.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie of Elsinore; children, Debi Swaner, LaVerkin, Heather (Todd) Newby, Monroe, Darwin J (JoNelle) Barney, LaVerkin, Tony (Candice) Barney, Monroe, Layne (Jacee) Barney, Monroe; foster son, Robert (Angel) Johnson, Hurricane; 21 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; sister, Shawna (DeLoy) Conder, Pleasant Grove; step-brothers, Merlin (Julie) Durfee, Aurora, Shelby Durfee, Price.

He is preceded in death by his son, Kelly LaVell Barney; parents; siblings, Sondra Dell Garrett, Alene Hunt, Ronnie Dunton, Keith Dunton; step-brother, Von Durfee.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Joseph LDS Ward Chapel, 50 North Center in Elsinore. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Monday evening from 6 to 8 or at the ward chapel in Elsinore on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery.
