Barbara Smith

Monroe, Utah

On June 28, 2014, Barbara Rae Oyler Smith, 83, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister, peacefully passed away in Monroe with her family at her side. Barbara was born in Loa, Utah to Hans and Cleo Oyler and graduated from Wayne High School. She married Joseph "JC" Smith on August 17, 1949 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, November 23, 1966. Together they had six children, 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He preceded her in death, February 13, 2000.

Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a long-time girl’s camp director and worked in the library for 14 years. She was a proud member of the Camp Monroe DUP. She worked in housekeeping at Sevier Valley Hospital for 14 years.

Mom enjoyed knitting hats, making hundreds, many for her grandchildren and many that were donated to Primary Children’s Hospital and the Veteran’s Hospital. She also worked diligently raising funds for the Veteran’s Memorial in Monroe. Mom loved to fish and always bragged about out-fishing her husband and her dad. She loved family camp outs and spending time with friends and family. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan and seldom missed a game on TV. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play sports and you always knew she was in the stands. No one could out-cheer Mom.

She is survived by her children: Pamela & Mike Litchford, Deweyville; Terry & Peggy Smith, Joseph; Joe David & Cathy Smith, Joseph; Barbara "Bobbie" & Ron Fredrickson, Avon; and Michelle "Shelly" Bagley, Monroe; daughter-in-law, Marsha Smith, Monroe; sister, Marlene Funk, Richfield.
