Amado Lopez

South Jordan, Utah

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Amado Ramiro Lopez Castanon, 73, left this earth on March 31, 2015, in Sandy, after a long battle with kidney failure. He showed remarkable strength and courage through many years of dialysis and surgeries. He loved the Lord and being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Amado was born in San Marcos, Guatemala, on September 14, 1941 to Marco Alberto Lopez Escobar and Tomasa Delors Castanon Hernandez. He was a gifted musician and artist. He graduated from a conservatory in Guatemala and played piano, guitar, and violin. He had a beautiful voice and performed as a professional musician in Guatemala and the United States. He received a degree in accounting and later graduated from Brigham Young University in Communications. While at BYU, he performed with the BYU Lamanite Generation and made many dear life-long friends.

He married Cynthia L. Tibbs in the Provo LDS Temple on December 18, 1974, and they had six children: David A. Lopez Tibbs, Marjorie Lopez Tibbs (Leonard) Palali, Luis J. Lopez Tibbs, Don R. Lopez Tibbs, Amanda M. Lopez Tibbs, and Marina C. Lopez Tibbs. He taught his children to love beauty, treat people with respect, and to go after their dreams. He was especially proud of his grandson Dominic Palali.

He had a special place in his heart for his father-in-law, Don V. Tibbs, and his Utah family: Claudia (Jeff) Killian, David (Carol) Tibbs, Robert (Rae Ann) Tibbs, Joao Paul and Janet Loureiro. He loved visiting with all of his nephews and nieces.

He was especially grateful for his neighbors and ward family for their visits, assistance, and kindness throughout the years. The family is also grateful to the many medical professionals who provided Amado with care and treatment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sister and mother-in-law.

Graveside services and interment will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Manti City Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, April 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parkway 5 th Ward, 10206 S. 3200 W. South Jordan, Utah. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
