Alma Wanlass

Manti, Utah

Dearly beloved Alma Anderson Wanlass, age 94, passed peacefully from mortality on June 3, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Sandy, Utah, sealing a legacy of love for God, family, and all humanity. She was born, a beautiful gift, on Easter morning, April 4, 1920, in Garland, Utah to Theodore Hoyt and Agnes Olsen Anderson, the third of four children. She spent her early years in Ephraim, Utah, with family and many friends and graduated from Ephraim High School in 1938. Her world expanded in 1939 when she spent one year as a governess in Arlington, Virginia. She married Frank George Wanlass of Manti, March 28, 1941, in Pueblo, Colorado; solemnized in the Manti Temple July 7, 1943. After Frank’s military service in 1946, Manti became home. They had eight children, raising seven to adulthood on the family farm where each was taught the value of hard work, thrift, and sacrifice. In 1981 Alma retired after 19 years with the South Sanpete District, Manti School Lunch; the last six years as manager.

A life defined by faith, hope, and charity, Alma’s testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ reflected brightly in her countenance. A lifetime of faithful service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Primary and Relief Society President, gave her great joy. Frank and Alma served as ordinance workers in the Manti and Provo Temples and one year in the Washington Seattle Mission. They were the Celestial Couple in the Mormon Miracle Pageant for many years and honored as Sweetheart Couple at the Ephraim LDS Institute. She was a faithful member of Manti DUP and "Forty-met-n-et."

Alma loved the scriptures and good books, shared her cooking, baking, and handiwork which brought joy to family and countless friends. She was always filled with a spirit to inspire or humor, served with diligence, followed in meekness, led by example, expressed gratitude freely, and loved unconditionally.
