Alma Bastian
Vermillion, Utah

Alma was born February 24, 1938 in Richfield to Vernal and Sadie Bastian of Vermillion. He died peacefully due to age with his family surrounding him in Glenwood in his daughter’s home on December 21, 2023.  He was married to Darlene Judd on March 12, 1966 in the St. George Temple.
Alma was raised on the family farm in Vermillion.  He spent his childhood thinning sugar beets, milking cows, and everything else from a young age.  He had four sisters and one brother and they all grew up learning the value of hard work with the exception of one sister Ruth who died at an early age.
At the age of 19 Alma served a mission to the Eastern States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the time and the people he served.  While on his mission he was part of the Hill Cumorah pageant.
After returning home he attended and graduated from BYU and had the best roommates and their friendship continued until his passing.  Alma always said he never let schooling get in the way of his education.  BYU was in his heart and had season tickets to the basketball games well into his 70s.
While attending BYU he met the sweetest woman who became his eternal companion and they worked together side by side until her passing in 2010.
Alma loved to travel and never needed a plan just an itch and he was ready to go.  Lake Powell was one of his favorites.  He also never missed a chance to ride the coasters at Magic Mountain visiting family all along the way, always surprising them by dropping by.
Alma and Darlene raised seven children they called their best crop and ran the farm and dairy with his older brother Burke. They loved teaching their children the value of hard work and importance of doing a job right.
He had a strong testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and would bear his testimony often always waking the congregation with his booming voice.  He served in the Sigurd Ward bishopric as well as Sigurd Town council and a brief time as Sigurd mayor.
He is survived by his children: Henry V (Chalane) Bastian, Clinton D (Heidi) Bastian, Corey A (Shanna) Bastian, Mark Al (Laura) Bastian, Grant Judd (Jennifer) Bastian, Sally (Brandon) Nowers, Kent W (Marlesa) Bastian; 29 grandchildren; sister, Sharon (Alton) Hone.
Preceded in death by his eternal companion Darlene; parents; siblings: Rae (Conrad) Kreutzer, Ruth Bastian, Burke (Irelta) Bastian, LaRee (Dan) Balle.
