Allen Miller

Panguitch, Utah

Allen "Grumps" Miller, 91, passed away January 14, 2014 in Panguitch. He was born July 26, 1922 in Panguitch, to John Calvin and Lena Worthen Miller, the youngest of 9 children.

He married Joann Elmer on March 18, 1948 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They made their home in Panguitch where they raised their six children.

Grumps was a man of few words, but when spoken they were profound. He loved spending time with his family and dipping chocolates at Christmas time, even sneaking a few when Joann wasn’t looking. He was an active member of the LDS Church, holding many callings. Also a member of the JCs, Grumps was instrumental in getting the grass out at the cemetery. Square dancing all over the western United States with his wife, Joann, was one of his favorite pass times. Family deer hunts were never complete without Grumps. He also served in the Navy during World War II.

Grumps is survived by his wife, Joann, Panguitch; children: Wayne (Colleen) Miller, Panguitch; Liz (Bruce, deceased) Barney, Washington; Alleen (Kim) Sherwood, Kanab; Arthur (Sheri) Miller, Panguitch; Melanie (Ren) Holman, Washington; Robert (LyNese) Miller, Panguitch; 25 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way, and 1 great-great-grandchild with 1 on the way.

Also preceded in death by parents; siblings: Calvin, Ned, Wenda, Ray, Wallace, Ada, Baby Jay, and Edith; son-in-law, Bruce Barney; great-grandchild, Riley Scott.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and all staff at Garfield Memorial Long Term Care and Hospital for their tender loving care of Allen over the last three years.
