Alburn DeLane Griffin

July 8, 1923 — March 31, 2021

DeLane Griffin
Escalante, Utah

Alburn DeLane Griffin passed away March 31, 2021 at his home in Escalante, Utah. He was 97 years young. Born July 8, 1923 in Escalante to Alburn Smith and Neoma Schow Griffin. He married his high school sweetheart Leah Porter in the Salt Lake Temple May 12, 1943. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2008.

He was proud of our flag and served in Panama in WWII.

Dad was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Served as bishop, high council and other callings and loved reading the Book of Mormon.

He often played on the early morning “Bandwagon” on the July 24th  celebrations. As bishop he was instrumental in having fireworks for the first time on the 24th. Dad served on the water board and had other civic duties.

Dad enjoyed being a cowboy on the Fifty Mile Mountain and chasing wild cattle. He was an avid deer hunter and outdoors man.

He loved his family. Dad and Mom “adopted” many friends into their family over the years. He also loved music—teaching himself to play the banjo, guitar and piano. He wrote poetry and loved entertaining family and friends. He looked forward every year to the “Griffin Reunion”. And now he is attending another family reunion with his beloved wife Leah, son Robert “Bobby Lee”, daughter  Brenda, great-grandson Bowdy Stowe, along with parents and grandparents.

Dad is survived by his children: Ann Haws-Alleman (Frank), Marlene Stowe (Stanley), Quinn Griffin (Doneen), Joy Griffin, Marilee Tullis (Shane); 18 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
