Renée Hazen
St. George, Utah
Beautifully brilliant, and one of Southern Utah’s most loved teachers, Renée Ogden Hazen, passed away peacefully in her home on February 3, 2022. Renée was born August 3, 1931 in Richfield, Utah, to Grant and Wanda Lawson Ogden, where she spent her childhood helping at the family business, Ideal Dairy, serving ice cream.
Education was a top priority for Renée; she proudly attended University of Utah and Utah State. Later, she attended Southern Utah University where she earned her Masters of Education degree. She taught in Spokane, WA, Logan, UT, and St. George, UT—her career spanned over 30 years.
Best known as Mrs. Hazen from Pine View High School, Renée held annual wassail parties at Christmas where past and present students attended. Mrs. Hazen was also known for her “famous red pen” that she would use to correct her students’ essays.
Along with day-to-day teaching, Renée also helped facilitate the annual Sterling Scholars competition, which helped prepare successful participants for college.
Renée loved to travel and England was one of her favorite places. She also spoke French and led international student trips.
Greatly loved by her family and her community, Renée will be very missed, and we’ll forever treasure her life lessons and memories.
She is survived by her son, RK Hazen, and her 10 grandchildren; siblings: Julianne Cowley and Jeff (Diana) Ogden. Preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kris Moon, sons, K.C. Hazen and Greg Hazen
