Lois Sorenson

Lois Donna Sorensen Sorenson passed from this life on July 26, 2022 at the Stonehenge Rehabilitation Center in Richfield, Utah. Lois was born June 24, 1928 in Centerfield, Utah, the first born child of Gordon William and Margaret Tassie Sorensen. Her family was later joined by a brother and two sisters.
Lois lived a happy and carefree childhood in Centerfield. She loved playing with her siblings, paper dolls and helping with cleaning the house. Lois loved school! She first attended school in Centerfield but was among the first class that began attending school in Gunnison in the old two story high school.
After graduation Lois attended Utah State University majoring in general education. Her second year was spent at Snow College. Her final two years of education were spent at Brigham Young University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Art. Lois taught school for two years, one year in Centerfield and one year in Gunnison.
During the time Lois was finishing her schooling, she met Kurt Ned Sorenson. They dated often and soon decided to marry. They were married on December 30, 1950. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on July 16, 1963. They were blessed with four children: Russell, Douglas, Bruce and Stacy. Kurt preceded her in death on March 5, 2022.
Lois was a wonderful mother. She worked around the clock taking care of her husband and sons while they tended the farm, milked the cows and harvested crops. Her daughter Stacy was a wonderful surprise to the family. Lois and Stacy were inseparable and enjoyed doing many things together. They loved to sew, paint, cook and shop together. They shared a special bond.
Lois was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in different callings with her favorite being Primary president. Kurt and Lois served for 11 years on the Centerfield Old Folks committee where they enjoyed the association with committee members. They had great fun serving the people of Centerfield.
Lois loved to try new things. She loved tole painting, making ceramics, sewing, cooking and playing cards. She loved the members of her pinochle club. Their monthly meetings were a highlight in her life. Lois was a good neighbor and a friend to all.
Lois’s long life is a testament to healthy living while living with Type 1 Diabetes. She was diligent in eating right, exercising and monitoring her blood sugar levels. She was a strong advocate for finding a cure for a disease that has plagued her family.
Lois is survived by her sons: Douglas Kurt Sorenson and Bruce Steven Sorenson, both of Centerfield; sister, Margaret Ann (Lloyd) Kofford; and sister-in-law, Linda (Clark) Wall. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; children, Russell Gordon Sorenson and Stacy Sorenson Simper; siblings: Robert Gordon Sorensen and Norma Jean Funk.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 1, 2022 at 12:00 Noon in the Centerfield 1st Ward Chapel where friends may call from 10:00 - 11:30 am. Interment will be at the Centerfield City Cemetery.
